Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 11, 2026
Streambench is a native macOS desktop app. This policy explains what data stays on your Mac, what is sent when you buy or activate a license, and what we never collect.
Broker credentials stay local
Connection profiles, SASL passwords, tokens, and credential files are stored only on your Mac (including the macOS Keychain). They are used solely to connect to brokers you configure. Broker credentials never leave your machine and are never sent to Streambench servers, Polar, or any other third party.
License activation
Purchases are handled by Polar as merchant of record. When you activate a license key, Streambench sends Polar:
- Your license key and an opaque machine fingerprint derived from your Mac's hardware identifier. This binds the license to that Mac and enforces the activation limit.
- Your Mac's computer name (the name shown in System Settings, from
scutil --get ComputerName). This is used only as a human-readable label so you can tell which Mac is activated when managing or deactivating licenses. Computer names often include a person's name (for example, “Valentin's MacBook Pro”), so treat this as personal data leaving your machine.
Polar also processes payment and customer details you provide at checkout under Polar's privacy policy.
What we do not collect
Streambench never sends Kafka/NATS message contents, keys, headers, broker addresses, credentials, or license keys to analytics. Message contents and broker metadata stay on your Mac unless you export or share them yourself.
Desktop app analytics
The Streambench desktop app may use PostHog for optional, opt-in product analytics. Analytics is off by default. On first launch, and later in Settings, you can choose to share anonymous usage such as how many connections you keep, when you open a connection, and the broker type (Kafka, Redpanda, or NATS). You can turn this off at any time. See PostHog's privacy policy.
Website
The streambench.app website is a marketing and checkout front end. Checkout redirects to Polar; we do not run our own accounts database for app users.
The website uses PostHog for product analytics (for example page views and basic usage). PostHog may process IP address, browser and device information, and pages visited. See PostHog's privacy policy.
